An instructive history, this remarkable work recounts the causes leading to the persecution of the French
Protestants and traces their emigration from France to England and Ireland. It examines the history of Huguenot
settlements and churches and draws particular attention to the contribution and influence of the Huguenots in
the British Isles.
The most interesting feature of the work, to the genealogist, is the collection of 300 biographies of noted
Huguenot refugees who settled in Britain. Considering the nature and scope of the biographies, this section
should go a considerable distance in enabling the researcher to make a positive identification of a Huguenot ancestor.
Additionally, the work contains an important section on the Huguenots in America by G. P. Disoway, featuring
histories of the Huguenots in Maryland, Massachusetts, New York, Pennsylvania, South Carolina, and Virginia.
