"This Litchfield Genealogy is issued in Numbers, as time and
expense will permit. Part One (which consists of several
Numbers) treats of Lawrence' Litchfield of Massachusetts,
and his descendants.
Succeeding Parts will take up the other
lines of Litchfields who live in America, having sprung from a
dozen or more immigrant ancestors.
"The next Number of Part One will continue Families of the
Fifth Generation of Lawrence1 Litchfield's descendants, in
the order of their numerical arrangement. It will contain at
least 64 pages of size and typography uniform with this Number,
and will be published in 1905-6, if the subscription list justifies
the cost of publication. It will be illustrated."
"Lawrence Litchfield, the progenitor of the old New
England family of Litchfield, was in Plymouth Colony before
1639. He is supposed to have been born in England in the
first years of the seventeenth century, — before 1620, perhaps
in Kent County.
"Diligent search has failed, so far, to reveal the place of his
birth, his parentage, or when or in what ship he came to this
country. Some have placed the date of his coming as early as
1630, while Morse infers that it was in 1634, and in the same
ship which brought Rev, John Lathrop."
