    Description

This is a PHOTOCOPY of a Vintage 1940s pattern to make doll clothes for your Shirley Temple Doll. This pattern also fits dolls of the same era such as: Patsy Ann, Little Lady Doll,  Movie Dolls and other composition dolls. I have this pattern available in a variety of sizes, so please be sure that you are buying the right one. This auction is for the 19/20" tall doll.
This pattern makes two dresses, coat & hat, blouse, overalls & sun hat, pajamas and combination undergarments. The coat overlaps in the front and has a three button closure plus a tie at the neckline. The hat is what I would call a sailor style with a flipped up brim. The first dress (shown in pink) has a skirt gathered to the yoke with two rows of shirring just below the yoke-to-skirt seam. It also has puffed sleeves and contrasting collar plus sleevebands. The sunhat has a wide brim and criss crossing straps. The overalls are a standard construction with straps crossing in the back. The second dress has a wide collar with a ruffled edge. Like the first dress, the skirt is gathered and attached to yoke pieces. It is sleeveless. It also has a double row of ruffles on the bottom edge of the skirt. The pajamas are one-piece union suit style. The button up the front, have a waistband tie, and a breast pocket. The undergarment (not pictured) is a combination, which is a slip and panties in one. The panties are attached underneath to the waist. I include a color printout of the front cover, a black and white copy of the instructions, back cover and the complete pattern. Please email me with any questions that you have.

In the 1930s the country was in the midst of the great depression and morale was low. In 1934 a young girl named Shirley Temple had her first movie role. Audiences loved her and she starred in movie after movie all with happy endings, a much needed diversion from the difficult economic times. The Ideal Toy Company started making Shirley Temple dolls to sell to her young fans. With each movie that Shirley made, a new outfit from the movie was made for sale. In addition, mothers and their daughters could purchase patterns to make clothing for their Shirley Temple dolls themselves. These patterns come from the 1930s, 1940s and 1950s, which just shows the lasting place Shirley Temple has in our hearts.
Due to Shirley's stardome, her dolls became an instant success and were made for many years in a large variety of sizes. Shirley Temple dolls were made in the following sizes: 11", 13", 16", 17", 18", 20", 22", 25", and 27". I have patterns available for most of these sizes.
This pattern was originally printed January 2, 1936. It was NOT copyrighted and became part of the public domain upon its publication, Janaury 2, 1936.
